(That’s because the questions are based on the type you’ll find in the Master of Wine, Certified Wine Educator, and Wine and Spirits Trust exams.) The game, playable by one or two, has a game-show format. A player spins the “Big Wheel” to land its pointer randomly on one of twenty-two winegrowing regions, organized under five different geographic categories (France, Italy, Spain & Portugal, New World, and Other Region). For example: you click the spin button and set the wheel in motion, bringing the pointer to rest on sub-topic ‘Washington State,” in the “New World” set. Your multiple-choice question appears: The WWQA (Washington Wine Quality Association) created the nation’s first definition of the term “reserve,” which requires that a wine so labeled: represent no more than 10 of the winery’s total production may be made from a vineyard yielding no more than 3.25 tons of grapes per-acre carry a single vineyard designation all of the above If answered correctly you’re rewarded with a higher score and the satisfying sound of harp strings; if incorrect, you get raspberried and a depleted score (but the correct answer is given). Depending on the score, players are rated from novice to expert. “A great and fun way to polish and hone your wine know-how,” says Tim Hanni, Master of Wine. The game is also great fun at home wine tastings and parties, and is an effective learning-aid for wine professionals.
