We paid particular attention to the "knees," the bent steel parts that connect the runners to the top. On mass-market runner sleds, these are the weakest point and collapse easily. On the Classic, the knees are made of extra-thick steel designed to handle lots of abuse: We use only stainless-steel bolts, and the solid birch top makes the Classic the most sturdy Flyer you've ever seen. We use highly figured maple, sanded smooth and hand-rubbed with a marine-grade finish.
